Macaroni Beef Pie

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup packaged bread crumbs, divided
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, choppped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1 2/3 cups extra thick spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup Butter Flavor Crisco
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.  Grease 9-inch pie plate well with Butter Flavor Crisco.  Sprinkle sides and bottom with 2 tablespoons bread crumbs.  Cook beef, onion, garlic, and 1 1/2 teaspoon salt in large skillet on medium heat until beef is well browned, stirring occasionally.  Drain off any excess drippings.  Stir in spaghetti sauce.  Cook and stir until mixture is thick enough to hold its shape.  Cool.

Cook macaroni following packae diecins.  Drain.  Melt Butter Flavor Crisco in same pan.  Stir in flour and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt.  Cook and stir one minute.  Add milk gradually.  Cook and stir until mixture thickens and bubbles.

Beat eggs in small bowl.  Pour half the white sauce into eggs, beating constantly until well mixed.  Return mixture to sauce remaining in pan.  Cook one minute.  Remove from heat.  Stir in cheese and cooked macaroni.  Spoon 2/3 of the macaroni mixture into pie plate.  Spread into even layer to line bottom and up side to rim.  Spoon meat mixture into center.  Cover with remaining macaroni mixture.  Sprinkle top with remaining bread crumbs.  Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or unti lightly browned on top.  Let stand 15 minutes before serving.  Cut into wedges to serve.
