Georgia Apple Betty
 

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown dugar, divided
  2. 1 cup water
  3. 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  4. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  5. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  6. 4 cups peeled, diced apples
  7. 4 cups whole wheat toast cubes
  8. 1/4 cup butter flavor Crisco
  9. Whipped topping

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 475 degrees.  Combine 1 cup brown sugar, water, corn  syrup, lemon juice and cinnamon in large saucepan.  Bring to a boil.  Add apples.  Boil 5 minutes.  REmove from heat.  Add toast cubes.  Mix lightly until liquid is absorbed.  Spoon into 1 quart casserole.  Press lightly.  Sprinkle with remaining sugar.  Drizzle with Butter Flavor Crisco.  Bake at 475 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until top is crisp.  Serve warm with whipped topping.
