Poached Plums - Soul Food Breakfast Recipe

The heavenly scents that comes from this treat will fill the morning air with a delightful aroma.

Ingredients:

  • 12 medium to large plums - any variety
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 cup evaporated skim milk

Directions:

Cut the plums in half, remove the pits and set aside. Combine the water and sugar in a large pot over high heat and bring to a boil. Add the vanilla bean and cinnamon stick and reduc the heat to low. Add the plums to the pot and simmer, covered for 15 minutes, until the plums are tender. Remove them with a slotted spoon and increase the heat to medium high. Cook the syrup for 10 minutes, until it thickens slightly, and remove the heat. When the syrup has cooled to room temperature, add the plums and mmilk and refrigerate for 1 hour, until thoroughly chilled.

Makes 6 servings.
