Traditional Cornbread
Ingredients:
 
  • 1 cup all purpose flour2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder1 ¼ cup milk
  • 1tsp.  salt¼ cup shortening
 
Directions:
 
Combine flour, corn meal, baking powder, salt and sugar, and then sift.  Add egg and milk.  Beat by hand or electric beater until smooth.  Heat shortening in 0 x 0 x 32 inch pan.  Pour mixture into pan,(I am an old fashioned cook I like to use a Cast Iron Frying Pan). Bake in hot oven at 425 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
