Classic White Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  •  tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup Crisco Shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 egg whites

Directions:

Heat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour two 8 or 9 inch round cake pans.  Combine flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl.  Combine sugar, Crisco and vanilla in a large bowl.  Beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until fluffy.  Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating well.  Scrape sides of bowl as needed.  Wash and dry beaters throughly.  Beat eggs whites in another large bowl until stiff peaks form.  Fold egg whites gently into batter.  Pour in pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or unitl toothpick inserted in center comesout clean.  Cool cakes on cooling racks 10 minutes before removing pans.  Cool completely on racks 10 minutes before removing from pans.  Cool completely on racks before frosting.  Frost as desired.

 

Makes one 2 layer cake.
