Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup Crisco Shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Directions:

Heat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.  Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl.

Add milk, Crisco, and vanilla.  Beat at low speed of elecric mixer until combined.  Beat at medium speed 2 minutes.  Add eggs.  Beat 2 minutes.  Scrape sides of bowl as needed.  Pour into pans.

Bake at 350 degress for 30 to 35 minutes or unitl toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool cakes on cooking rack for 10 minutes before removing cakes from the pans.  Cool completely on reack before frosting .  Frost as desired.

This recipe makes one 2 layer cake.
